Vitamin D: an essential nutrient for our natural wellbeing

Introduction

Vitamin D is often referred to as the "sunshine vitamin" – and for good reason! One of its main natural sources is the skin synthesis made possible by sun exposure. This fascinating nutrient plays an important role in many natural processes in our body.

Let’s discover together why vitamin D deserves our full attention – and what the link is with ImunoBran® PLUS Vitamin D3.

☀️ What is vitamin D?

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin – meaning it dissolves in fats and can be stored in our body. It comes in two main forms:

  • Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) – of plant origin
  • Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – of animal origin and synthesised by our skin under the effect of UV rays.

The D3 form is the most easily absorbed by our body and the most studied by researchers.

🦴 The roles of vitamin D in our body

Vitamin D contributes to many essential natural functions:

For bones and teeth:

Vitamin D plays a key role in the regulation of calcium and phosphorus – two minerals essential for the strength of our bones and teeth. It helps maintain normal bone structure throughout life.

For the muscles :

Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function – important for our mobility and daily vitality.

For general well-being :

Vitamin D contributes to the normal functioning of the body's natural defence system – a role particularly important during the autumn and winter months when sun exposure is reduced.

Note : These roles are recognised by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) as part of the authorised nutritional claims for vitamin D.

🌥️ Vitamin D deficiency – a very common phenomenon

Vitamin D deficiency is particularly common in our regions. The main reasons :

  • 🌍 Our latitude – in Luxembourg and France, sunlight is insufficient from September to March to allow for adequate skin synthesis
  • 🏠 Modern lifestyle – we spend more and more time indoors
  • 🎂 Age – needs increase with age and skin synthesis becomes less effective
  • 🌑 Skin type – darker skin synthesises less vitamin D

How to detect a deficiency ?

Only a blood test prescribed by your doctor can confirm your vitamin D levels. Consult your doctor if you have any doubts.

🌞 How to maintain a good level of vitamin D ?

Sun exposure :

In Luxembourg, the period from March to September allows for adequate synthesis with 15 to 30 minutes of daily sun exposure – hands, arms and face uncovered.

Foods rich in vitamin D :

  • 🐟 Fatty fish – salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring
  • 🥚 Eggs – especially the yolk
  • 🧀 Fortified dairy products
  • 🍄 Sun-exposed mushrooms

Supplementation :

In autumn and winter, or in cases of insufficient sun exposure, supplementation may be considered on the advice of your doctor.

🌾 ImunoBran® PLUS Vitamin D3 : the Japanese natural combination

It is in this context that ImunoBran® PLUS Vitamin D3 – our product that combines two complementary natural elements :

  • 🌾 MGN-3 arabinoxylan – the natural rice bran polysaccharide patented by Daiwa Pharmaceutical
  • ☀️ Vitamin D3 – in the form of cholecalciferol, the most naturally absorbable form

This unique formula, manufactured in Japan according to the strict quality standards of Daiwa Pharmaceutical, is registered with the Health Ministries in Luxembourg and France.

ImunoBran® PLUS Vitamin D3 is particularly appreciated during the autumn and winter months, as well as by those who spend a lot of time indoors.

🍄 The link with Japanese tradition

In Japan, natural vitamin D has always held an important place :

  • 🌊 Fish – consumed daily for millennia
  • 🍄 Mushrooms – rich in vitamin D, particularly Shiitake – an emblematic mushroom of Japanese tradition and a key ingredient of ImunoBran®
  • ☀️ Outdoor activities – Japanese culture encourages daily walks and contact with nature

This philosophy of natural daily care lies at the heart of Daiwa Pharmaceutical’s mission – and of ImunoBran® PLUS Vitamin D3.
