Introduction

Our body is in constant dialogue with the seasons. Each change of season brings its share of challenges and opportunities for our natural well-being. Understanding these seasonal cycles helps us better prepare our body and maintain our natural balance throughout the year.

Traditional Japanese medicine, with its concept of "Shiki-Iji" (medicine of the four seasons), has been teaching us for millennia that each season requires a specific adaptation of our lifestyle habits. Let me guide you through this ancient wisdom.

🌸 Spring: awakening and renewal

The challenges of spring:

  • Spring pollens and seasonal sensitivities
  • Temperature variations – warm days, cool nights
  • Transition fatigue after winter

Support strategies:

  • 🌿 Gradual acclimatisation – start with short outings in variable weather
  • 🍯 Local honey – cherished for centuries to accompany the changing of the seasons
  • 🌱 Spring herbs – nettle, dandelion, primrose to accompany natural renewal
  • 🥛 Fermented foods – yogurt, kefir, miso to nourish intestinal balance

🌸 Japanese wisdom in spring:

In Japan, spring is celebrated by the Hanami – the contemplation of cherry blossoms. It is also the season for bamboo shoots, wild ginger (myoga), and wild herbs (sansai) – traditionally consumed to accompany the body's natural awakening after winter.

Silvia's advice: Spring is the ideal time to renew your wellness habits and integrate new natural rituals into your daily routine.

☀️ Summer: heat, energy, and alertness

The challenges of summer:

  • Chronic mild dehydration
  • UV rays and oxidative stress
  • Sudden temperature variations – air conditioning vs. outdoor heat
  • Disruption of sleep rhythms

Support strategies:

  • 💧 Generous hydration – at least 2.5 litres of fluids per day
  • 🥗 Light and colourful diet – rich in fruits and vegetables with high water content
  • ☀️ Natural sun protection – hat, light clothing, shade during hot hours
  • 🌿 Refreshing herbs – mint, lemon balm, basil in cold infusion
  • 🥛 Natural probiotic drinks – kefir, kombucha, amazake

☀️ Japanese wisdom in summer:

The Japanese practice Uchimizu – the art of sprinkling streets and gardens with fresh water for natural refreshment. They also consume foods with "refreshing energy" – cucumbers, eggplants, seaweed, melons. The tea Mugicha (roasted barley tea) is the traditional summer drink – caffeine-free, refreshing and rich in minerals.

Silvia's advice: In summer, I continue my ImunoBran® MGN-3 routine in the morning with a large glass of fresh water. It's my daily wellness ritual – summer and winter.

🍂 Autumn: preparation and transition

The challenges of autumn:

  • Shorter days and less natural light
  • Return to enclosed spaces – schools, offices
  • Dietary changes – less fresh fruit
  • Climate transition – gradual cooling

Support strategies:

  • 🎃 Autumn vegetables rich in antioxidants – squashes, carrots, beets
  • 🍄 Seasonal mushrooms – shiitake, maitake, chanterelles – natural treasures of autumn
  • - Zinc-rich foods - pumpkin seeds, nuts, legumes
  • 🍵 Comforting herbal teas – rosehip, elderberry, ginger
  • 🌳 Outdoor activity – enjoy the last beautiful days before winter

🍂 Japanese wisdom in autumn:

In Japan, autumn is the season of mushrooms (matsutake, shiitake, enoki), sweet potatoes and chestnuts. The Japanese intensely practice Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) – immersive walks in the forest to naturally recharge before winter. The contemplation of red maples (Momiji) is a millennia-old tradition of reconnecting with nature.

Silvia's advice: Autumn is my favourite season for walks in the forest in Luxembourg. Nature offers us a magnificent spectacle – and the benefits of a walk in the forest on our well-being are remarkable!

❄️ Winter: inner warmth and natural resilience

The challenges of winter:

  • Dry air in heated spaces
  • Lack of natural light and vitamin D
  • Diet often richer in sugars and fats
  • - Stress related to work and the festive season
  • Time spent in enclosed and confined spaces

Support strategies:

  • - Foods rich in vitamin C - citrus fruits, peppers, broccoli, fermented cabbage
  • 🌶️ Warming spices – turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cloves
  • 🥣 Homemade soups and broths – comforting and nutritious
  • 🐟 Foods rich in vitamin D – fatty fish, eggs, sun-dried mushrooms
  • 🌡️ Maintaining good hydration – heated air dries out the body

❄️ Japanese wisdom in winter:

In winter, the Japanese prepare Nabe – a traditional hot pot cooked directly at the table with fresh ingredients in a medicinal herb broth. Yuzuyu is also very popular – a yuzu (Japanese citrus) bath at the winter solstice to warm up naturally. Onsen (hot springs) are frequented all winter for their comforting virtues.

Silvia's advice: In winter, I often prepare a homemade miso soup with seasonal vegetables. Simple, comforting, and so good!

🌿 The pillars of natural well-being all year round

Whatever the season, some fundamentals remain constant:

1. 😴 Quality sleep

7-8 hours of sleep per night allow the body to regenerate naturally. Maintain regular hours even on weekends.

2. 🧘 Stress management

Chronic stress disrupts our natural balance. Meditation, breathing, yoga, walks in nature – find your daily practice.

3. 🏃 Regular physical activity

30 minutes of moderate activity per day – walking, cycling, swimming – contribute to overall well-being. Adjust the intensity to your abilities and the season.

4. 🥗 A balanced and seasonal diet

Varied, rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Prioritise seasonal and local foods – as the Japanese have always done.

5. Adequate hydration

Water is essential for all bodily functions. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 litres per day, adjust according to the season and your activity.

🌾 ImunoBran® MGN-3: a natural companion for all seasons

It is within this philosophy of daily and seasonal care that ImunoBran® MGN-3.

Made in Japan by Daiwa Pharmaceutical using a unique patented process, ImunoBran® MGN-3 combines:

  • 🌾 The rice bran – rich in arabinoxylan, a natural polysaccharide
  • 🍄 The enzymes from Shiitake mushrooms – an iconic mushroom of Japanese tradition
  • 🔬 An innovative bioconversion process – for optimal absorption

This natural dietary supplement, registered with the Ministries of Health in Luxembourg and France, can accompany your wellness routine throughout the year – whatever the season.

The Japanese philosophy of balance and prevention

The Japanese approach to wellness is based on fascinating principles:

  • 🍱 Shokuiku (nutritional education) – importance of seasonal foods
  • 🍚 Hara hachi bu – eating to 80% of capacity to never overload the body
  • - Wabi-sabi - acceptance of the natural cycles of life, including seasonal changes
  • ♨️ Onsen (hot springs) – regular hydrotherapy to promote circulation and well-being

Conclusion

Our body is in constant dialogue with the seasons. Understanding this dialogue and responding wisely – by adapting our diet, activity, and lifestyle habits to each period of the year – is the very essence of the Japanese philosophy of well-being.

The most important lesson from this millennia-old approach? Regularity and consistency. Small, consistent daily actions are infinitely better than occasional intensive treatments.

As I often tell my clients: "Health is not a destination – it is a daily journey, season after season."
